Founded in 1843 in Aÿ, the Besserat de Bellefon maison is recognized for its production of "gourmet" champagne. It was born from the marriage of Edmond Besserat and Yvonne Méric de Bellefon. Indeed, not undergoing malolactic fermentation, their champagnes are considered to be wines for aging.
The house owns 25 hectares and sources grapes from local winegrowers to increase their production capacity. Besserat de Bellefon champagne nowadays belongs to the Lanson-BCC group.
Wuat's tip: Try it! We tasted this vintage in December 2020, no trace of oxidation, the wine is very young although it is a bottle from the 1980s. The palate is powerful, concentrated with a certain sweetness but well balanced by great acidity. Tasting advice: To taste with two people, four maximum, otherwise you will be sad that there is only one bottle. Open the bottle, pour 5 centiliters into a glass and partially recap the bottle to enjoy it an hour later.
We tasted several old bottles of Besserat de Bellefon which is not the most famous Champagne house, they were all awesome. We specify that this is an absolutely subjective opinion.
