Château de Beaucastel has long been considered one of the great wines of France. It is unanimously recognized for its balance, elegance and aging potential. Beaucastel has an extraordinary terroir at the northern end of the appellation with a strong exposure to the Mistral (you know the cool wind which crosses the eastern axis of France from North to South at very high speed). The 13 varieties of the appellation have been cultivated there organically since the 1960s.
The 2000 vintage is considered exceptional. A very hot summer, but good weather conditions until the end of the harvest.
Blend of the 2000 vintage, still the way of "simplicity" in Châteauneuf:
30% Grenache / 30% Mourvèdre / 15% Vaccarèse, Terret Noir, Muscardin, Clairette, Picpoul, Picardan, Bourboulenc, Roussanne / Syrah: 10% / Counoise: 10% / Cinsault: 5%
Opinion of WUAT: We tasted a magnum of Beaucastel 1998 from the same cellar in 2018. A wine of great elegance, lots of finesse, notes of strawberries and red fruits, raspberry jam, very tannins. silky and impressive length. There is no doubt that this 2000 vintage, just as qualitative, will give you the same satisfaction. At this price, do not worry about the label and share a great moment of tasting.
