LA MISSION HAUT-BRION 1972 - PESSAC-LEOGNAN
Presentation of the domain:
Mission Haut-Brion is a prestigious wine estate located in Pessac, in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, in the Bordeaux region. The estate was classified as a Grand Cru Classé in 1855, and is renowned for the quality of its wines. The property extends over approximately 30 hectares and benefits from gravelly and clay-limestone soil.
Presentation of the cuvée
La Mission Haut-Brion is the main cuvée of the estate. It comes from a blend of Bordeaux red grape varieties, with a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged in oak barrels for approximately 18 months. This cuvée benefits, as often in the Graves, from great aging potential.
About the 1972 vintage:
Don't run too fast! Yes, the 1972 vintage is far from being the most flamboyant for Bordeaux wines (or for French wines in general except for the Rhone Valley). The wines are often diluted and lacking in substance. On the other hand, the high acidity allows them to age honourably.
The "Mission" 1972 is considered one of the best wines of the vintage with Margaux! Evidenced by the 86 points awarded by Parker (and at that time he was not really generous).
If you want to try the experience of the 72 vintage, this large bottle is a great opportunity.
