This is the 13th vintage produced. Sassicaia means "sunny rock" for a short and simple translation. This name refers to the gravel (small pebbles) present on the Bolgheri terroirs strongly exposed to the sun (hence the brand's logo). It is a soil quite similar to that of the region of the same name in Bordeaux.
The 1980 vintage was a good year with moderate rains and average fall and summer temperatures.
Vinification: 13 days of maceration with frequent remuage, immediately followed by malolactic fermentation
Aging: 20 months of aging in 70% French barrels. 30% of casks from Slovenia. 50% new barrels and 50% barrels made from one or two wines.
