The "Cotat" family is currently the benchmark in Sancerre. Pascal Cotat is François Cotat's cousin. It also benefits from the very beautiful clay-limestone terroirs of "Les monts Damnés" and "La Grande Côte" for a total estate of only 2.3ha.
These two vintages benefit from quite similar and exceptional terroirs. They are used to produce plot cuvées. In a way, these are the grands crus of Sancerre.
"La grande côte" is harvested after the Monts damnées with a slightly greater maturity. The resulting wine is thus much more powerful (around 15% alc vol).
There is no doubt that these wines have great aging potential. But, given the scarcity of bottles and the growing popularity of the Cotat cousins, it will be difficult to obtain older vintages.
