Huet - Vouvray "Le Haut-Lieu" Moelleux 1997

Presentation of the Huet estate:

Domaine Huet is one of the most famous in the Vouvray region of Touraine, in the Loire Valley. Founded in 1928 by Victor Huet, it is now managed by Jean-Bernard Berthome and produces some of the best wines in the region. The 35-hectare vineyard is planted exclusively with Chenin Blanc on the hillsides of Vouvray and is spread over three different terroirs, each with its own character and style.

Presentation of the cuvée:

Haut-Lieu Moelleux is one of Huet's most famous wines. It is a sweet wine made from Chenin Blanc grapes on the Haut-Lieu terroir, a legendary site for the production of Vouvray wines. Haut-Lieu Moelleux is produced from overripe grapes that are harvested late to obtain a high concentration of sugar and refreshing acidity. After fermentation, the wine is aged for several years in oak barrels to obtain aromatic complexity and a silky texture.

The cultivation of the vines is carried out in a traditional way. The maintenance of the soil is done mechanically, without chemical weed killer and only with organic fertilizers.

The protection of the vineyard is carried out with natural substances, without insecticides and without synthetic chemicals.

The work of the soil and the vine is carried out according to the rhythms of the planets.

This cultivation method allows the estate to maintain and develop the originality of its wines.

The Huet estate is the most recognized and famous in Vouvray.

The vines of Domaine Huet are between 30 and 50 years old.

The cuvées from localities like this are exceptional and unrivaled since they are distinguished and refined.

About the 1997 vintage at Vouvray:

Haut-Lieu Moelleux 1997 is an exceptional vintage for this cuvée. The climatic conditions were perfect for producing overripe and concentrated Chenin Blanc grapes, giving the wine a rich aromatic palette of ripe fruit, honey and spice. On the palate, it is rich and fat with a balanced acidity that brings a nice freshness to the finish.

Food and wine :

Haut-Lieu Moelleux 1997 goes perfectly with sweet desserts such as fruit tarts, crème brûlée or tarte tatin. It can also be served with blue-veined cheeses such as Roquefort or Bleu d'Auvergne.

Serving tips:

Haut-Lieu Moelleux 1997 should be served chilled but not too cold, at a temperature of around 10-12°C. It can be opened immediately or kept in the cellar for several more decades for those who wish to age it further. There is no need to decant it.
