Château Talbot 1982 - Saint-Julien
Presentation of the domain:
Château Talbot is located in the commune of Saint-Julien, in the Médoc. This estate has a rich history, dating back to 1648, when it was established by John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury. Since then, the estate has been extended and modernised, whilst retaining its original charm and character. The vineyard covers 110 hectares in one piece, planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Château Talbot is ranked fourth grand cru in the 1855 classification.
The estate is recognized for the regularity and quality of its vintages.
The estate produces three wines:
- Château Talbot: the estate's first wine, aged in barrels for fifteen months in 50% new barrels.
- Le Connétable de Talbot: second wine from younger vines than the first wine is aged 12 months in barrels.
- Le Caillou Blanc: atypical white wine for the Médoc because stemming from Cordier's desire to replant white vines in Saint-Julien, it is aged in barrels for nine months then on lees
THE 1982 vintage:
To be concise, 1982 is THE greatest vintage of Talbot, rated 95 pts at the time by RP, it is still one of the very great wines that a Bordeaux lover must have tasted in his life. If you have thought of organizing a tasting around the 1982 vintage, Talbot will have to be part of it.
It features a dense garnet color all the way to the edge and a huge, sweet and exotic nose of charcoal, oxblood, licorice, herbs and dark fruits. A hint of figs suggests borderline over-ripeness, but the wine remains fleshy and full-bodied with soft tannins and an expansive, heady mouthfeel." R. Parker 2009
By filling out this form, we are asking if we have ever been really disappointed by a Talbot. And the answer is no! Talbot is the lifeline of the taster, the wine that will please everyone in all circumstances. Any lover of Bordeaux, what am I saying, of wine, must have at least one in the cellar, ready to be tasted.
