Gevrey-Chambertin 2005 - Château de Marsannay
Presentation of the domain:
The Château de Marsannay estate extends over the best climats of the Côte de Nuits: Fixin, Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot and particularly Marsannay. Working the soil, controlling yields, long vatting and aging in barrels; everything is done, at each stage, to reveal all the subtleties of each terroir.
The 2005 vintage at Gevrey-Chambertin: Simply sublime
A warm, cloudless spring which saw both early bud break and flowering. June and July were dry with high temperatures until August when the heat was not overwhelming. The sporadic showers of September rehydrated the vines. The Indian summer also allowed the grapes to slowly reach perfect phenolic maturity.
The reds feature the rich, ripe fruit of a warm year, offset by exceptional acidity, reminiscent of cooler years. Perfectly balanced between deep concentration and elegant freshness, many wines possess the structure necessary for long-term aging.
