Old Telegraph 1989 Magnum - Chateauneuf-du-Pape

The estate owes its name to the inventor of the telegraph, Claude Chappe, who installed his first relay towers on the estate in 1821. The estate, which had already been owned by the Brunier family for over a century, was not yet used for wine production.

As is often the case in Châteauneuf, the estate is of a respectable size. With its 65 hectares of vines whose average age exceeds 65 years, the estate produces only about 200,000 bottles per year. The yields are therefore very low.

About the 1989 vintage: Parker gave it a score of 87 points (which in the 90s was a really high score). It is one of the greatest successes of the estate in the last thirty years. It must be said that the 1989 vintage is overall a very great success in the whole Rhone Valley.
