Brunello di Montalcino 1979 - Biondi-Santi cantina Il Greppo
Brunello di Montalcino Biondi-Santi is the first Brunello in history and for 150 years has embodied the vision that inspired Clemente Santi to create his first expression in the 19th century. Today, as yesterday, it is a distinct wine, with a complex and refined personality.
THE 1979 VINTAGE in Montalcino: Great wines for laying down
The cool spring gave way to a warm summer with regular but not too abundant rainfall. The good conditions allowed the harvest to begin at the end of September.
The volume production in Montalcino was slightly above the average of previous years. The wines are structured and have a great capacity for aging.
This Brunello di Montalcino 1979 was produced with the Sangiovese Grosso BBS11 clone (Brunello Biondi Santi 11), identified and selected by Biondi-Santi at Tenuta Greppo in the 1970s. For this Brunello, grapes from vineyards aged between 10 and 25 years were used.
The 1979 vintage was aged for 3 years in Slavonian oak barrels (not new) before benefiting from a very long aging in bottle.
Serving advice: this wine will require many hours of opening prior to tasting. The ideal is to open it at lunchtime for the evening meal.
