Brunello di Montalcino 1981 - Biondi-Santi cantina Il Greppo
Brunello di Montalcino Biondi-Santi is the first Brunello in history and has embodied for 150 years the vision that inspired Clemente Santi to create his first expression in the 19th century. Today, as yesterday, it is a distinct wine , with a complex and refined personality.
THE 1981 VINTAGE
An excellent seasonal trend marked by a rainy and mild month of May, dry and hot months of July and August to end with a month of September without rain. Completely dry harvest period.
This Brunello di Montalcino 1981 was produced with the Sangiovese Grosso BBS11 clone (Brunello Biondi Santi 11), identified and selected by Biondi-Santi at Tenuta Greppo in the seventies. For this Brunello, grapes from vineyards aged 10 at 25 years old were used.
The 1981 vintage was aged for 3 years in Slavonian oak barrels (not new) before benefiting from a very long aging in bottle.
Exceptional provenance: These bottles come from a cellar of a great Swiss wine enthusiast and collector. We have acquired the complete collection containing more than 200 bottles of mainly French and Italian wines. The bottles have all been preserved following their purchase en primeur or shortly after their marketing on site, in a natural cellar buried under a 16th century convent. A damp cellar, which is why some labels are very worn. The levels are generally excellent or perfect and the most "fragile" bottles testify to conservation in total darkness for more than 30 years!
