About the estate : It was Madame Darmailhacq, owner of another large estate in Pauillac, who sold Château Lafite her plot of Carruades du Pouyalet in 1844. Other plots adjoining Château Lafite and located on the Carruades plateau were acquired at the same time. No need to introduce Château Lafite Rothschild, 1st grand cru classé of 1855 and, still today, the most highly rated Pauillac wine.

This Carruades cuvée is the only other wine from Château Lafite. It is produced on the Plateau des Carruades with the same rigor as the grand vin. The proportion of Merlot, a little higher, makes it more accessible. Long aging of 16 to 20 months in 80% barrels of which only 10% are new wood.

About the vintage : 1995 is an excellent vintage in Pauillac and on the right bank. The wines with a high proportion of Merlot are particularly successful.
