Chateau Ausone 1974 - Saint-Emilion
Presentation of the domain:
Château Ausone is one of the most legendary estates in Bordeaux. Located on the right bank of the Garonne, in Saint-Émilion, it is classified 1er grand cru classé A. Its history dates back to Roman times, but it was in the 18th century that the estate began to produce world-renowned wines. Today, it is run by the Vauthier family, who took over the reins of the estate in 1997.
Presentation of the Ausone - Saint-Émilion vintage:
The Ausone cuvée is considered one of the greatest wines of Saint-Émilion, and perhaps even of all of Bordeaux. It is an exceptional wine, produced in very small quantities (around 20,000 bottles per year), from a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The Ausone cuvée is known for its finesse, complexity and length in the mouth.
Presentation of Ausone 1974:
The 1974 vintage in Saint-Émilion was considered a difficult vintage, due to unfavourable weather conditions. If the months of May and June announced a good year, the summer that followed was cold and rainy, too bad. Despite this, Ausone 1974 is a wine that has stood the test of time, thanks to its balance and finesse. This wine is considered a great vintage for Ausone, and is today highly sought after by wine lovers.
Food and wine pairing:
Ausone 1974 will perfectly accompany a red meat dish, such as a fillet of beef or a leg of lamb. It can also be enjoyed with a platter of mature cheeses.
Serving Tips:
Ausone 1974 should be served at a temperature of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. It is recommended to decant it at least one hour before tasting. The wine should be served in large quality red wine glasses.
