Château Ausone 1988 - Saint-Emilion 1er Grand cru classé
About the domain:
Château Ausone has been owned by the Vauthier family since 1974. It was previously owned by the Dubois Chalon family.
It is a confidential vineyard of only 7 hectares which produces on average less than 25,000 bottles per year. An extremely low quantity compared to the other great châteaux of Saint-Emilion and Bordeaux in general.
The grape varieties are evenly divided between Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
About the 1988 vintage in Saint-Emilion:
The 1988 vintage was marked in Bordeaux by significant rain during the harvest period. Some Châteaux harvested too early, others on the contrary made the right choice to wait a little. Ausone produced a tannic and powerful wine that ages particularly well.
Find below the tasting notes of D. Fornage tasted in April 2011:
Aromas full of lace and elegance. Red fruits blend with notes of vanilla and noble spices.
The wine is quite "straight" and a little strict in terms of tannins. The style is classic and pleasant.
