Chateau d'Armailhac 1998 - Pauillac
About the domain:
As early as 1680, there are traces of the Armailhacq brothers, owners of about fifteen hectares of vineyards. A century later, the 52-hectare estate was called "Mouton d'Armailhacq". Following very costly investments, Madame Darmailhacq had to sell her plot of Carruades du Pouyalet to Château Lafite in 1844. In 1855, the Château was classified among the fifth growths. After many twists and turns, the estate was acquired by Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Mouton d'Armailhacq became Mouton Baron Philippe then Mouton Baronne Philippe before taking back the name Château d'Armailhac in 1989.
About the vintage:
A generally successful vintage for the Pauillacs which could have become legendary if rains in September and October had not disrupted the harvest.
WUAT Review: For us, Château d'Armailhac is a bit like Château Duhart-Milon but offers greater consistency. You will never be disappointed with d'Armailhac. A lovely wine that will not need to be decanted.
