Beaucastel Castle 1993 - Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Château de Beaucastel has long been considered one of the great wines of France. It is unanimously recognized for its balance, elegance and aging potential. Beaucastel has an extraordinary terroir at the northern end of the appellation with strong exposure to the Mistral (you know the cool wind that crosses the eastern axis of France from North to South at very high speed). The 13 varieties of the appellation have been cultivated there using organic farming since the 1960s.
The 1993 vintage was characterized by relatively cool and humid climatic conditions, which produced elegant and balanced wines. The 1993 Château de Beaucastel is distinguished by its finesse, spicy character and ripe fruit aromas. It is a high-quality wine, which can be enjoyed now or kept in the cellar for several years.
Blend of the 1993 vintage, always the path of simplicity at Châteauneuf:
30% Grenache / 30% Mourvèdre / 15% Vaccarèse, Terret Noir, Muscardin, Clairette, Picpoul, Picardan, Bourboulenc, Roussanne / Syrah: 10% / Counoise: 10% / Cinsault: 5%
WUAT's opinion: This wine is a classic Châteauneuf. Never disappointing, it ages magnificently well. You can go for it with your eyes closed! A two-hour opening before tasting will do it the greatest good.
