Château Duhart-Milon 1997 – Pauillac
History of the House
This 4th Grand Cru classé from 1855 is located a stone's throw from the famous Château Lafite Rothschild, to which it is closely linked. Its history dates back to the 18th century, when the Castéja family, then owners, developed the estate. The name "Duhart" comes from a former privateer under Louis XV, who settled in Pauillac in retirement, whose house is said to have inspired the estate's current winery. After a period of decline at the beginning of the 20th century, the estate was taken over in 1962 by Domaines Barons de Rothschild, who invested massively to restore its prestige.
The vineyard covers 76 hectares of deep gravel, mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Duhart-Milon wines are renowned for their finesse, balance and great aging potential.
Presentation of the Cuvée
This Château with its classic style combines power and elegance. Aged for 14 to 16 months in oak barrels (50% new), these wines are distinguished by their tannic structure, their complex aromas of black fruits, cedar and tobacco, as well as their remarkable longevity.
Presentation of the 1997 Vintage
1997 was marked by contrasting climatic conditions: after an early spring and a dry summer, rains in September accelerated the harvest. This vintage produced supple, accessible wines that were pleasant to drink young. In Pauillac, the best châteaux were able to take advantage of the conditions to offer well-balanced, concentrated and elegant vintages.
