Appellation: Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Classification: Premier Grand Cru Classé (Official classification of Saint-Émilion wines since 1955)
Owner in 1985: Manoncourt family

History of Château Figeac

Château Figeac is one of the most prestigious properties in Saint-Émilion, located in the west of the appellation, near the border with Pomerol. Its history dates back to Gallo-Roman times, making Figeac an estate rich in heritage. Known for its exceptional terroir, composed mainly of gravel, it is often referred to as the "Médocain of Saint-Émilion" thanks to its atypical grape varieties favoring Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc over Merlot.

Under the management of Thierry Manoncourt, who ran the estate until his death in 2010, Figeac consolidated its reputation for finesse and longevity. The estate is appreciated for its balanced wines, which combine power, complexity and elegance.

Presentation of the great wine of "Château Figeac"

Château Figeac stands out for its unique blend for the region:

  • 35% Merlot
  • 35% Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 30% Cabernet Franc

This balance gives the wines a solid tannic structure, remarkable aging potential, and an aromatic expression that is both elegant and complex. Figeac excels in great vintages, but also knows how to get the best out of more discreet years thanks to its unique terroir.

Presentation of the 1985 vintage in Saint-Émilion

The 1985 vintage is a benchmark year for Bordeaux, marked by exceptional climatic conditions:

  • Mild winter, early spring and hot summer without excess.
  • Harvesting in dry and sunny weather allowed for uniform and optimal ripening of the grapes.

The 1985 wines are often described as fleshy, harmonious and perfectly balanced. These are wines that have aged well and continue to seduce wine lovers thanks to their freshness and complexity.

Presentation and specificity of Figeac 1985

  • Terroir: Gravelly soils, perfect for drainage and maturation of Cabernets.
  • Vinification: Traditional, in temperature-controlled concrete vats, with aging in French oak barrels (40% new barrels).

Bottle condition:

  • Bottle in excellent condition.
  • Clear and deep color, sign of optimal conservation.
  • Label in very good condition, slightly stained and weathered by time.

Tasting:
Château Figeac 1985 offers a unique sensory experience:

  • Nose: Complex and captivating, with aromas of ripe black fruits, leather, tobacco and a touch of cedar.
  • Palate: Harmonious, with a velvety texture. The tannins are melted, and the finish reveals notes of truffle, undergrowth and dark chocolate.
  • Aging potential: Drink now, but can still be kept for a few years for lovers of old wines.
