Château Gilette "Head Cream 1950" - Sauternes
4.5 hectare estate located in the village of Preignac in Sauternes. The estate is unique in the region for its tradition of prolonged aging of its sweet white wines before marketing and, in most cases, the wines will spend 15 to 20 years in concrete vats and minimal (if any) aging in barrels.
The flagship wine of Château Gilette is the Crème de Tête, produced in varying volumes from the first juices from the press. Gilette wines (including the Crème de Tête) are a blend of mainly Sémillon, with a little Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle.
The Crème de Tête vintage is distinguished by its exceptional smoothness and unique concentration. Produced only when the vintage allows it, it is produced from late-harvested grapes, carefully selected for their perfect botrytization.
Yields are among the lowest in the world with an average of 9 hectolitres per hectare, which can reach 12 HL/HA in very good years.
When tasted, its amber color reveals its noble aging, while the palate blossoms on complex aromas of candied citrus fruits, honey and an incredibly creamy texture. Of a rare richness and opulence, this Sauternes offers a remarkable length in the mouth and an aging capacity that is measured in decades, making it a timeless wine.
Exceptional provenance and colour: These bottles come from the cellar of a great wine enthusiast and collector. The bottles have all been preserved following their purchase as primeur or shortly after their marketing on site, in a natural underground cellar. The labels are worn but very readable. The exceptionally clear colour of the dress indicates a wine perfectly protected from light.
