History of the House
This Cru Classe de Graves in 1959, was for a long time an iconic property, recognized for the finesse and longevity of its wines. Founded in the 19th century, it shares a history closely linked to its illustrious neighbor Château Haut-Brion. In 1983, Domaines Clarence Dillon, owners of Haut-Brion, took over La Tour Haut-Brion and maintained the tradition of excellence. After the 2005 vintage, Château La Tour Haut-Brion was integrated into the production of the Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion.
The vineyard, located on a terroir of deep gravel on a clay-limestone subsoil, is planted mainly with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, offering powerful, complex and elegant wines. The wines of this estate, rare today, are sought after for their aromatic richness and their great aging capacity.
Presentation of the Cuvée
This red Graves, renowned for its finesse and balance, reflects the elegance of its unique terroir. Carefully aged in oak barrels, it reveals complex aromas of ripe black fruits, leather and tobacco, with mineral nuances characteristic of great Graves.
Presentation of the 1996 Vintage
The 1996 vintage was exceptional on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, with conditions favorable to perfect ripeness of the grapes, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon. This Château La Tour Haut-Brion 1996 offers a complex profile, marked by aromas of blackcurrant, graphite and tobacco, associated with a beautiful freshness and very fine tannins. A perfectly balanced wine, ready to be tasted or kept for a few more years.
