Chateau Larmande 1982 - Saint-Emilion
Château Larmande is a 25-hectare wine estate historically classified as a Grand Cru of Saint-Émilion. The first traces of its existence can be found in 1569. This makes it one of the oldest Bordeaux wine estates.
It is the neighbor of Château Soutard which also belongs to the same owner, the La Mondiale Grand Cru group.
The vineyard is composed mainly of ancient sands with smaller portions of clay-limestone and siliceous clay in the soil.
The blend and grape varieties of the vineyard are quite classic with 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The vinification takes place in stainless steel vats before aging in French oak barrels in approximately 60% new wood and in amphorae for 18 months.
Around 70,000 bottles of Château Larmande are produced each year, making a small production for the region.
The 1982 vintage is possibly the most beautiful success of Château Larmande, like many Saint-Emilion, it offers a structured but balanced wine whose aging potential has made it a very great wine still widely appreciated today. Taking this bottle out for a blind tasting could disconcert more than one!
Exceptional provenance: These bottles come from a cellar of a great Swiss wine enthusiast and collector. We have acquired the complete collection containing more than 200 bottles of mainly French and Italian wines. The bottles have all been preserved following their purchase en primeur or shortly after their marketing on site, in a natural cellar buried under a 16th century convent. A damp cellar, which is why some labels are very worn. The levels are generally excellent or perfect and the most "fragile" bottles testify to conservation in total darkness for more than 30 years!
