About the Castle

Château Prieuré-Lichine, located in the heart of the Margaux appellation, is a historic estate whose origins date back to the Middle Ages. Ranked fourth grand cru in the 1855 classification, the estate experienced a revival thanks to Alexis Lichine, nicknamed "the pope of wine", who acquired the property in 1951 and modernized its winemaking techniques. Today, Prieuré-Lichine is recognized for producing elegant, balanced and typical Margaux wines, always respecting its terroir.

The 77-hectare vineyard is planted on deep gravel soils, providing ideal natural drainage for Bordeaux grape varieties. The estate favors blends that highlight the suppleness and complexity of Merlot while relying on the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Vintage 1999

The year 1999, although complex in terms of climate, produced interesting wines thanks to a rigorous sorting of the grapes. After a rainy spring, the summer offered warmer conditions, favoring a beautiful maturation of the grapes. The wines of this vintage, often ready to drink in their youth, are distinguished by their suppleness, balance and immediate charm.

To the eye, this Prieuré-Lichine reveals a beautiful garnet color with slightly tiled reflections, testifying to its evolution. The nose is complex and charming, with aromas of ripe red and black fruits, blackcurrant, candied cherry, enhanced by spicy notes, blond tobacco and delicate wood. On the palate, it is distinguished by melted tannins, a silky texture and a subtle freshness that balances its roundness. Its elegant and persistent finish makes it a very pleasant wine to drink now.

For Château Prieuré-Lichine, this 1999 vintage is a gourmet and elegant wine, perfect for Margaux lovers looking for a wine ready to taste.
