Châteauneuf-Du-Pape 1988 - Domaine Val-Aouri - Domaine L. de Vallouit
About the domain:
Stock directly from the estate! In excellent condition of conservation and aging.
The L. de Vallouit estate was a magnificent family estate in the northern Rhône valley. One of the few to own vines in all the appellations of the northern Rhône, with the exception of Château Grillet of course. In 2001, the estate's vines were taken over by Guigal, who incorporated them into some of his most prestigious vintages.
Tasting notes and serving advice:
We tasted this vintage in May 2022 with other vintages from the estate. This Châteauneuf seemed particularly young and lively to us. This freshness is due to the presence of Co2. We do not know if this is a happy coincidence or the estate's desire to keep "carbonic" in some of its vintages from this period.
You will therefore need to open and decant this bottle for at least 12 hours before tasting it. If, like us, you are not the patient type. You can also shake the bottle to get rid of the CO2. A slightly crude method but terribly effective.
On the palate, the wine is ample and round with tannins present but perfectly smooth. It offers aromas of black fruits, spices, dried herbs and liquorice. A very nice surprise for tasting adventurers.
