Châteauneuf-du-Pape "Special Vintage" 2001 - Tardieu-Laurent
Presentation of the Tardieu house - Laurent
The Tardieu - Laurent house was born in 1996 from the cooperation between Michel Tardieu, a lover of Rhone wines, and Dominique Laurent, a quality merchant producing great Burgundy wines. Today, the Laurent-Tardieu house offers a wide range of the best vintages from the entire Rhone Valley, in white and red, and some wines from the south of France, including Bandol.
Presentation of the 2001 "special vintage"
A cuvée 100% undestemmed Grenache noir (whole harvest), needless to say the concentration is incredible. 80-year-old vines from the famous La Crau sector, a very great Châteauneuf in a classic style.
Tasting Notes: 95 Parker Points
It displays substantial concentration and a formidable assortment of flavours including ripe fig, crème de cassis, chocolate, melted liquorice, espresso and earth. Full-bodied, beautifully concentrated and pure, with significant reserves of power, it has the potential to be magical, but patience will be a virtue given its firmness. It is hard to believe that this wine contains nearly 16% natural alcohol, but this component is completely masked by the level of concentration. Expected maturity 2020-2023. R.Parker Feb 2004.
