Château Cheval Blanc is a kind of myth, whether in cinema or in the collective imagination, the simple fact of knowing that we are about to taste a bottle provokes a sweet emotion.
Owned by the Arnaud Family (LVMH), this former 1er Grand Cru Classé A, which voluntarily left the classification in 2021, is particularly avant-garde, particularly in the vineyard. The vineyard is composed of 52% Cabernet Franc, 43% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
But the winery, with its ultra-modern architecture, is not to be outdone. Go take a look at the Château Cheval Blanc website, which is particularly comprehensive and readable.
1984 is not the most flamboyant of vintages. But a Cheval Blanc is still a Cheval Blanc. Below are the tasting notes:
Considered the most difficult vintage of the decade, 1984 remains a pleasant surprise, with a beautiful breadth, but suffers from the almost total absence of Merlots which suffered from the abundant rains of May. The tiled color of the dress shows signs of evolution but remains of a good intensity. The nose is discreet, but shows a beautiful finesse and a certain freshness, which is the signature of the importance of Cabernet Franc in the grape varieties of this vintage. On the palate, the wine has an average structure and a certain dryness because of a fairly present astringency at the end of the mouth.
