Champagne Philipponnat "Clos des Goisses" 2007
Presentation of the domain : Founded in 1910, the Philipponnat champagne house is located in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, a village classified as a Grand Cru of Champagne. For more than 100 years, it has strived to produce exceptional champagnes, in accordance with the Champagne tradition.
Presentation of the cuvée: Clos des Goisses is THE great cuvée of the moment. To give you an idea of the style of wine, it is a bit as if the great finesse and elegance of the Cristal cuvée were married to the punchy Grand Siècle cuvée. The best of both worlds in short. According to the Philipponnat house, it is the most powerful of Champagne wines.
This vintage is made from a blend of Pinot Noir (65%), Chardonnay (35%) planted on a hillside with a 45° slope facing due south, hence the name "Goisse" which means very steep hillside in old Champagne. The wines are aged 3/4 in wood and without malolactic fermentation which allows it to retain a high acidity but also requires more aging before being tasted. And that's good, because the bottles sleep in cellars for 8 to 12 years before being disgorged.
Presentation of the vintage : 2007 is an exceptional vintage in Champagne, characterized by a perfect maturity of the grapes, offering an exceptional quality. This cuvée offers an explosion of flavors, a perfect balance between freshness and maturity, and a beautiful aromatic complexity.
WUAT's opinion: We hope that this bottle will be rightly appreciated by those who taste it (it would be sad not to share it). To be enjoyed with a powerful dish. Truffle, caviar, or game, nothing scares this exceptional vintage that will delight the most demanding amateurs.
