Ah, the Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 1988 , a monument for lovers of great Blanc de Blancs Champagnes... An exceptional wine, made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes from the most prestigious vintages of the Côte des Blancs. The nobility of this vintage, combined with the ancestral know-how of the Taittinger house, makes it a must-have for collector's cellars.

What more can I say? This bottle stands out for its ageing capacity. 1988, more than 35 years after it was bottled, continues to reveal complex aromas: toasted notes, dried fruits (almonds, hazelnuts) and candied citrus fruits, with a breathtaking persistence in the mouth. A true contender for the throne of legendary champagnes!

The Taittinger House

Founded in 1734, one of the historic houses of Champagne. The Counts of Champagne embody the exceptional know-how of this house, paying homage to Thibaud IV, Count of Champagne, who brought back the Chardonnay vine from Cyprus in the 13th century.

Vintage:

1988 , an exceptional year in Champagne. A hot summer and a harvest of great quality, offering ripe grapes, with a beautiful acidity and an exceptional aging potential.

Technical Details:

  • Terroir:
100% Chardonnay from Great Growths exclusively located on the prestigious Côte des Blancs (Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger). These limestone terroirs give the wine finesse, minerality and freshness.

  • Vinification and Aging:
The 1988 Comtes de Champagne aged for over 10 years in the deep chalk pits of Taittinger in Reims. This long aging on lees allowed the development of an aromatic palette of great complexity and a silky texture.

  • Assembly :
100% Chardonnay (Blanc de Blancs), guaranteeing elegance and purity.

  • Alcohol content:
    12% vol.

Food & Wine Pairing:

A wine tailored to accompany refined dishes. Serve it with:

  • Seafood (lobster, oysters, langoustines).
  • Noble fish (turbot, sole, sea bass).
  • Creamy or truffled poultry.
  • A simple, refined parmesan for lovers of savory pairings.
