Cornas 1994 "Champelrose" - Domaine Courbis

Terroir: Very poor granite soil, filtering and draining

Vineyard: 2.5 Ha 100% Syrah with low yield. This 1994 Cuvée comes from the estate's original Cornas plot whose vines were planted in 1919! Another larger plot of 4.3 ha of young vines was planted in the early 2000s and has since been used in the cuvée.

Vinification: Manual harvest, 100% destemmed. Modern vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats with regular pumping over and punching down. Significant extraction, vatting and long maceration of 3 weeks to obtain a concentrated wine for laying down with an intense color.

Long aging of 16 months with moderate addition of wood: 25% new barrels, 20% one-year-old barrels and 55% two-year-old barrels.
