"Château" Cos d'Estournel 1982 - Saint-Estèphe - 2nd Grand Cru Classé 1855
Is it still necessary to present the Cos d'Estournel? This 2nd classified growth from 1855 is by far the most famous Saint-Estèphe. Its powerful and elegant style, and the very consistent quality it has demonstrated for over 50 years make it one of the best Bordeaux, sometimes better rated than some 1er grands crus classés.
Cos almost always has significant aging potential. The 1986 and 1988 vintages are still somewhat closed today.
The estate is also known for its second wine, the Pagodes de Cos, but also its Cos d'Estournel Blanc , since 2005, produced in very small quantities.
Robert Parker's 2009 tasting notes:
This 1982 still displays a beautiful deep ruby/purple hue and a superb aromatic ensemble of blue and black fruits, loamy earth, florals, licorice and spice box. The wine is medium to full-bodied with soft tannins, a medium to full-bodied palate and a silky finish. 96 points
Tasting advice:
Serving temperature: 17-18°C.
Decanting: Decant at least 3 to 4 hours before tasting to release the complex aromas of this great mature wine.
