Is it still necessary to present the Cos d'Estournel? This 2nd classified growth from 1855 is by far the most famous Saint-Estèphe. Its powerful and elegant style, and the very consistent quality it has demonstrated for over 50 years make it one of the best Bordeaux, sometimes better rated than some 1st classified growths.

Cos almost always has significant aging potential. The 1986 and 1988 vintages are still somewhat closed today.

The estate is also known for its second wine, the Pagodes de Cos, but also its Cos d'Estournel Blanc , since 2005, produced in very small quantities.

Cos d'Estournel 1988

The 1988 vintage is a great success at Cos, if it is not as imposing as the 1986 nor as harmonious as the 1990, it is nonetheless a great balanced Cos, concentrated with the particular roasted and cocoa notes that make the Cos inimitable. It will be more "accessible" than its neighbor Montrose which will require several additional hours of opening.

Decant at least 1 hour before tasting. Serving temperature: 17 to 18 degrees

Exceptional provenance in CBO: These bottles come from a cellar of a great Swiss wine enthusiast and collector. We have acquired the complete collection containing more than 200 bottles of mainly French and Italian wines. The bottles have all been preserved following their purchase en primeur or shortly after their marketing on site, in a natural cellar buried under a 16th century convent. A damp cellar, which is why some labels are very worn. The levels are generally excellent or perfect and the most "fragile" bottles testify to conservation in total darkness for more than 30 years!
