Côte-Rôtie "La Landonne" 2001 - E Guigal
About the estate: Is it really necessary to introduce you to the E.Guigal estate (E for Etienne but we know you already knew that)? Established in Ampuis since 1946, this large family estate is currently managed in the best possible way by the third generation of winemakers. The estate owns some of the most illustrious plots in the Rhone Valley, including this one.
About the cuvée: La Landonne is a 100% Syrah goldsmith's cuvée from vines that are 35 years old on average, it is also probably the most "powerful" of the famous trio. After a careful sorting that will eliminate 25% of the harvest from only 2 HA, it benefits from 40 months of aging in new barrels. Unlike the Mouline and the Turque, this is not a monopoly for Guigal. But the vines that were planted for the birth of the generation in charge of the estate are particularly pampered.
About the 2001 vintage : An absolutely perfect vintage from north to south of the Rhone Valley. The volumes were substantial, sometimes even requiring a control of the yields. The Landonne rated 95 points is obviously very successful and can be tasted today or wait for many more years.
WUAT's note: This bottle comes with many others from a cellar of a great Syrah lover. They have been beautifully preserved in a humid natural cellar, on metal cradles. The labels are often very disintegrated. We cleaned them very carefully and filmed them. We recommend not removing the films to avoid completely tearing off the labels. It's up to you to see if you are a gambler.
