Côte-Rôtie "La Turque" 2008 - E Guigal
About the estate: Is it really necessary to introduce you to the E.Guigal estate (E for Etienne but we know you already knew that)? Established in Ampuis since 1946, this large family estate is currently managed in the best possible way by the third generation of winemakers. The estate owns some of the most illustrious plots in the Rhone Valley, including this one.
About the vintage: La Turque is a goldsmith's vintage, a blend of powerful Syrah softened with a little Viognier. After a careful sorting that will eliminate 25% of the harvest from only 1 HA, it benefits from 40 months of aging in new barrels. This plot held in monopoly by Guigal is the sunniest of the trio and the one with the youngest vines (25 years on average), the grapes voluntarily ripen a little more than on the other two vintages. In the end, less than 4500 bottles were produced in 2008, making it the rarest of the three vintages.
About the 2008 vintage: You may be starting to know us. At WUAT we have our sights set on wines with great ageing potential. The 2008 vintage is the most closed of the 2000s vintages but has particularly interesting potential for development. A symbol of the passion of youth, this vintage should reach its peak between 2025 and 2030 (much later for lovers of old wines).
