Domaine du Pégau 1997

The Féraud family has been operating wine estates since 1670. It was not until 1987 that the "Domaine du Pégau" was created. The "pégau" is the name of a wine pitcher used in the 14th century during the papal period, in Châteauneuf this goes without saying.

Very quickly the estate made a name for itself and took its place among the best estates of Châteauneuf. The 1990 vintage was praised by critics who placed it among the three best estates of Châteauneuf! From then on the vast majority, if not all, of the production was exported. This is why this estate is ultimately little known in France.

The Pégau estate operates 23 hectares in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation but also produces Côtes du Rhône and Vins de France of very respectable quality.

The vinification is done using whole harvests, spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts and aging for 24 months in 50hl tuns.

Serving advice : The wines from the Pégau estate are rich in "substance" and will therefore tend to become cloudy when served if it is done in a hurry (or should I say without rushing). So make sure to do a real decanting in the literal sense of the term to avoid having a glass full of sediment.
