Presentation of the domain
In the commune of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle is the Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. A 75-hectare estate classified as second grand cru in the 1855 classification.
The estate has existed since 1720, with six families of owners having succeeded one another.
The Château Ducru-Beaucaillou owes its name to the "beautiful pebbles", called gunzian gravel, which are quartz pebbles carried by the primitive Gironde at the beginning of the early Quaternary, probably nearly two million years ago.
These Gu?nzian graves have produced poor soils, the agricultural poverty of which guarantees the qualitative excellence of the wines.
Tasting notes
Tannic and underdeveloped, the 1989 is well made and well vinified. Full of blackberry and cassis aromas with elegant and perfumed mineral and floral notes, it is medium-bodied, racy and well-rounded on the palate. (R. Parker 1996)
