History of the Maison M. Chapoutier
Founded in 1808 in Tain-l'Hermitage, Maison M. Chapoutier is an emblematic figure of the wines of the Rhône Valley. Under the direction of Michel Chapoutier since 1990, the estate has embraced a philosophy of biodynamic viticulture, placing respect for the terroir and excellence at the heart of its practices.
M. Chapoutier is distinguished by its Braille labels, a tribute to Maurice Monier de la Sizeranne, inventor of the Braille abbreviation and a historical figure of the region. Each vintage expresses the identity of a unique terroir, with a particular emphasis on the grands crus of Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie.
Presentation of the “Le Pavillon” vintage
Le Pavillon is one of the most prestigious vintages of the Ermitage appellation. Coming from an exceptional plot in the place called "Les Bessards" , this vintage comes from century-old vines planted on pure granite soil. Made entirely from Syrah , it embodies the power and finesse of the great vintages of the Rhône Valley.
Aged in oak barrels (some of which are new) for around 18 months, "Le Pavillon" stands out for its exceptional longevity, evolving gracefully over several decades.
Presentation of the 2001 vintage at Hermitage
The 2001 vintage is considered a great classic in the northern Rhône Valley. The year was marked by ideal climatic conditions: a hot and dry summer followed by harvests in sunny and cool weather, allowing a slow and uniform maturation of the grapes.
The 2001 wines are characterized by their freshness, precision and ageing potential. For the red Hermitage, it is a year that produced Syrahs of remarkable elegance, with a fine tannic structure and a beautiful aromatic depth.
