History of the House of Sérafin Father and Son
Founded in 1947, the Sérafin Père et Fils estate is located in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Small in size (5.3Ha all the same) but immense in quality, this family estate produces wines that combine power and finesse. The viticultural and winemaking practices are rigorous: limited yields, manual harvests, and aging in oak barrels, with a significant proportion of new wood. This artisanal know-how gives the estate's wines a remarkable structure and exceptional aging potential.
Presentation of the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation
Gevrey-Chambertin is an iconic appellation of the Côte de Nuits. Renowned for its powerful and complex wines, it is often called "the king of Burgundy wines." The predominantly clay-limestone soils and the south-eastern exposure of the vineyards provide an exceptional terroir for Pinot Noir. Among the many prestigious climates of the appellation, the village produces cuvées that are both structured and elegant, perfectly suited to long aging.
Presentation of the 1976 Vintage in Burgundy
The 1976 vintage was one of the hottest of the 20th century in Burgundy, marked by a scorching summer. The grapes, harvested early, showed exceptional concentration, producing rich, full-bodied and very mature wines. Although some may have seemed closed in their youth, they revealed themselves over time, offering complex aromatic profiles and a beautiful residual freshness. Today, these wines are a rarity, and well-preserved bottles represent treasures for wine lovers.
