History of the House of Sérafin Father and Son

Founded in 1947, Sérafin Père et Fils is a family estate located in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. This estate, although relatively discreet in Burgundy, has built a solid reputation thanks to a powerful and structured style. Today, it is recognized as one of the emblematic producers of the appellation. The estate covers approximately 5.3 hectares and produces wines with a strong personality, resulting from meticulous work in the vineyard and cellar, combining tradition and modernity. The estate's wines, known for their aging potential, often prove impressive after a few decades of aging.

Presentation of the Cuvée Les Cazetiers

Les Cazetiers is one of the most famous climats of the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation, classified as Premier Cru. Located on the slopes to the northeast of the village, it benefits from an exceptional terroir marked by limestone and stony soils, ideal for Pinot Noir. The name "Cazetiers" comes from "castet," meaning "castle" in old French, alluding to an ancient building overlooking this vineyard. This climat is renowned for producing wines of great depth, combining elegance and power.

Presentation of the 1984 Vintage in Burgundy

The 1984 vintage in Burgundy is known for being complex and difficult, mainly due to a cool and rainy summer. The reds were produced in small quantities and required rigorous selection in the vineyard. However, some talented estates, such as Sérafin, managed to make the most of this capricious vintage, creating fine, light and elegant wines, perfect for lovers of mature Pinot Noir.

Presentation and Specificity of this Cuvée

The Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers 1984 from Sérafin Père et Fils is an absolute rarity, with a bottle in excellent condition. This wine, although from a difficult year, is a reflection of the expertise of the Sérafin house. It has an evolved but still vibrant color, with light garnet nuances. On the nose, we find complex tertiary aromas: undergrowth, leather, mushroom, and a touch of dried cherry. On the palate, the wine is fine, with acidity still very present, supporting flavors of delicate red fruits, sweet spices, and damp earth.
