The L. de Vallouit estate was a magnificent family estate in the northern Rhône valley. One of the few to own vines in all the appellations of the northern Rhône, with the exception of Château Grillet of course. In 2001, the estate's vines were taken over by Guigal, who incorporated them into some of his most prestigious vintages.

About the vintage:

The Gigondas appellation is located in the southern Rhone Valley, east of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It produces rich and juicy red wines with aromas of kirsch fruits. They often have great aging potential and evolve towards notes of undergrowth and truffle.

90% of the blend is made up of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre grape varieties.

About the 1991 vintage in Gigondas:

1991 is an excellent vintage for the Syrah from the Northern Rhone Valley. Unfortunately this is less true for the South, which includes Gigondas, where the wines are thin and less interesting. But what can you do, you don't choose your year of birth.
