Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru 1973 - Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)
Presentation of the domain:
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is considered one of the most prestigious and renowned estates in the world. This estate produces mainly red wines from Pinot Noir on exceptional terroirs, including the Grands Crus Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Grands-Echezeaux, Echezeaux, as well as some rare white wines from Chardonnay in Montrachet.
The wines of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti are renowned for their finesse, elegance and ability to age for many decades.
Presentation of the vintage:
The Grands-Échezeaux is a vineyard located above the village of Flagey-Échezeaux, between Vougeot and Vosne-Romanée in Côte de Nuits, in Burgundy. It extends the Musigny towards the south, with a less turbulent and more regular design. The Grands-Échezeaux and the Échezeaux are separated by the bottom of the Combe d'Orveau. They have been AOC Grands Crus since July 31, 1937, as has the Clos de Vougeot with which they share foundations of the Cîteaux Abbey dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries. The term "chesaux", of Gallo-Roman origin, means a group of dwellings, probably an ancient hamlet.
With an area of only 8.37 hectares and an average annual production of around 36,000 bottles, the Grands-Echezeaux are much rarer than the Echezeaux, which covers 36.12 hectares for an annual production of around 160,000 bottles (which is already very little).
Presentation of the 1973 vintage:
The 1973 vintage in Burgundy is known for being of average quality, let's not hide it. However, over the years, we realize the incredible aging potential of the great Burgundy wines. The high acidity and powerful tannins provided by ripe grapes ultimately make them balanced and very pleasant wines after long years of aging.
Wines from this vintage are often sought after by collectors and lovers of wines for laying down, for their exceptional aging potential.
Service tips:
To be enjoyed slowly upon opening. It will probably be unnecessary to decant or carafe it despite the deposits. We simply advise you to serve it upon opening in medium-sized glasses and to appreciate its evolution in the glass.
WUAT's Note : As you can see from the pictures, the color is very beautiful and youthful. Surely a great bottle that will leave wonderful tasting memories.
