Hermitage La Chapelle 1988 - Paul Jaboulet Ainé

L'Hermitage La Chapelle is an anthology wine in the world of wine lovers. "A hill and a legendary history have built, over the centuries, the mythical reputation of this great vintage."

The history of this hill is quite pretty. But to summarize, a knight, in the 13th century, decided to isolate himself from the world and settled at the top of this hill, he was, little by little, joined by others who decided to plant vines there. The Hermitage actually owes its name to the hermit, the vineyard was already existing in Antiquity with the wines of Vienna.

The wines have exceptional aging potential, up to 40 years and more! The vintage comes from very old Syrah vines on stakes.

The 1988 vintage: After the rain..

1988 did not start under the best auspices for the wines of the Northern Rhône and its Syrah. However, after an early spring that suffered from hail and heavy rain, the summer and the harvest were grandiose, producing full-bodied, rich and tannic Syrahs.

As for the Bordeaux 1988, there is no compromise, either it is ripe or it is not! With this Hermitage la Chapelle, no fear, success is there, 92 Parker points and glowing tasting comments:

Powerful and extremely rich, it stands out as one of the most classic expressions of Syrah. R.Parker 1996

It is beginning to approach its peak and this is evident in the very strong appreciation of its rating. Don't miss this bottle before it is too late.

WUAT's note: This bottle comes with many others from a cellar of a great Syrah lover. They have been beautifully preserved in a humid natural cellar, on metal cradles. The labels are often very disintegrated. We cleaned them very carefully and filmed them. We recommend not removing the films to avoid completely tearing off the labels. It's up to you to see if you are a gambler.
