The Maison Krug was founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug. His dream was to create the best Champagne possible every year, regardless of the annual climatic variations. He achieved this by paying close attention to the character of the vineyard and respecting each plot in order to build up a large library of reserve wines from different years.

Since then, Krug has remained a family business, with 6 generations following one another.

The cellar master now draws on 400 wines to create her vintages (250 wines of the year + 150 reserve wines from 14 different years).

The House strives to ensure that each Krug Millésimé expresses the unique character of its year. The cuvée brings together the most expressive wines from the same year, enhanced by aging for more than 10 years in the cellar. Each Krug Millésimé is different.

Krug 1998 is a tribute to Chardonnay. It stands out for its purity, precision, elegance and length in the mouth.

Chardonnay was chosen as the main grape variety for this vintage because of the superb quality of that year's Chardonnay grapes.

It is the second Krug Vintage to be dubbed "A Tribute to Chardonnay since 1981.

According to the Krug tasting committee, we find in the Krug 1998 the round and warm character of 1989 associated with the great elegance and freshness of 1988.

In 2014, Gault & Millau gave it a tasting score of 19/20.
