Chateau La Tour Blanche 1985 - Sauternes
Presentation of the domain:
Château La Tour Blanche, located in the Sauternes appellation, is an iconic estate in the Bordeaux region. It has a rich history dating back to the 18th century and is renowned for its exceptional sweet wines. The unique terroir, composed of clay-limestone and gravel soils, encourages the development of the noble rot necessary for the production of great Sauternes.
Presentation of the Château La Tour Blanche vintage:
Château La Tour Blanche is renowned for its ability to produce sweet wines that are rich, complex and balanced. Traditional methods of successive harvests (sorting) allow the selection of the most concentrated grapes affected by botrytis cinerea, which brings the magic of noble rot. It is a blend of Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, the proportions of which change according to the vintage.
About the 1995 vintage: exceptional liqueurs
The 1995 vintage in Sauternes was marked by climatic conditions favorable to the formation of noble rot, an exceptional vintage for the sweet wines of Bordeaux. Château La Tour Blanche 1995 has a deep golden color. Its intense nose reveals aromas of honey, candied apricot, caramel and dried fruits. On the palate, it offers an explosion of complex flavors, mixing exotic fruits, sweet spices and the characteristic freshness of Sauternes.
Food and wine pairing:
Château La Tour Blanche 1995 pairs perfectly with blue cheeses, foie gras (oh the cliché), exotic fruit desserts and pastries. It can also be enjoyed alone at the end of a meal for a gourmet tasting moment or as an aperitif.
Service tips:
To fully appreciate Château La Tour Blanche 1995, serve it at a temperature of around 10 to 12°C in white wine glasses. Prior aeration in a carafe can allow the complex aromas to develop further.
We tasted one of the bottles for "the snack" in September 2023, a marvel of balance between acidity and sweetness. An extremely aromatic wine with typical notes of saffron and candied fruits that can be enjoyed for hours simply with the nose. On the palate the wine is not heavy, the sugars are patinated and counterbalanced by the acidity, what happiness!
Things to know about sweet wines:
- The alcohol content does not change over time in the bottles.
- There is no more or less sugar, however the sugars become more patinated, giving a less sweet appearance.
- The gravel that can form over time is not sugar but tart.
- Fun fact, once opened you can store it in the refrigerator for over a month without any worries.
