Château Léoville Las Cases 1978 - 2nd classified growth of Saint-Julien - 90 RP
The Grand Vin de Léoville from the Marquis de Las Cases comes from exceptional terroirs. The Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet Francs give this wine a completely unique character.
This grand cru of Saint-Julien, ranked 2nd in 1855, is almost always among the best Bordeaux.
Léoville Las Cases 1978: Tasting notes by R. Parker
The color of the 1978 Las Cases has taken on garnet hues and dark ruby nuances, and the nose appears more complex and pronounced than the aromas it unfolds on the palate. The classic aromas of mineral, pencil, smoke and earth are followed by a generous ensemble of ripe fruit, fortunately free of the green and herbaceous character that often undermines this vintage. The attack on the palate reveals a medium-bodied wine with good maturity. The finish is hard, revealing very abundant tannins, which will probably never melt. (Tasted in 1995)
Exceptional provenance: These bottles come from a cellar of a great Swiss wine enthusiast and collector. We have acquired the complete collection containing more than 200 bottles of mainly French and Italian wines. The bottles have all been preserved following their purchase en primeur or shortly after their marketing on site, in a natural cellar buried under a 16th century convent. A damp cellar, which is why some labels are very worn. The levels are generally excellent or perfect and the most "fragile" bottles testify to conservation in total darkness for more than 30 years!
