CHATEAU MEYNEY 1976 - SAINT-ESTEPHE
Château Meyney is one of the oldest properties in the Médoc.
With its current 51 ha, the estate has changed hands several times, passing from the Luetkens to the Cordier in 1919 and then to CA Grand Crus, a subsidiary of Crédit Agricole in 2004, which intends to exploit the full potential of this excellent Saint-Estèphe. They are assisted by the advice of the oenologist Hubert de Boüard, also the owner of Angelus.
On siliceous gravel soils, the vines are between 35 and 40 years old on average and are composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. Overlooking the Gironde, the vineyard is protected from frost by the river.
"Prieuré des Couleys" is the historical name of Château Meyney, for the sake of simplification the château will keep only the name "Meyney" at the beginning of the 80s. This bottle is in no way a second wine.
WUAT's opinion: Meyney offers, like many wines offered by Cordier (Talbot, Gruaud-Larose among others) at this time, a great aptitude for aging. 1976 was a good year in Bordeaux and, having tasted a memorable Talbot 76 (blind we gave it twenty years less) we can assure you that this bottle will offer you a beautiful tasting.
