CHATEAU MEYNEY 1988 - SAINT-ESTEPHE
Château Meyney is one of the oldest properties in the Médoc. With its current 51 ha, the estate has changed hands several times, passing from the Luetkens to the Cordier in 1919 and then to CA Grand Crus, a subsidiary of Crédit Agricole in 2004, which intends to exploit the full potential of this excellent Saint-Estèphe. They are assisted by the advice of oenologist Hubert de Boüard.
On siliceous gravel soils, the vines are between 35 and 40 years old on average and are composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot.
Overlooking the Gironde, the vineyard is protected from frost by the river.
This 1988 vintage is particularly successful. Parker gives it 88 points, comparing it to the excellent 1975 vintage. It has immense aging potential and should start to open up today.
Meyney is a symbol of consistency and quality, just like Talbot or Domaine de Chevalier. If you are looking for an excellent price/pleasure ratio, this bottle will seduce you. And if you don't drink it...we will do it with pleasure.
