History of the Barão de Vilar house:
Barão de Vilar, founded in 1996, is one of the most respected producers of quality Ports. With centuries of winemaking tradition in the Douro Valley, the Van Zeller family, at the helm of the house, is renowned for its exceptional know-how and ability to produce Ports of unmatched finesse and complexity. The

What is a Colheita?
A Colheita is a type of vintage Port, produced only in exceptional years. Unlike Vintage Ports, which are bottled after a relatively short aging in casks (around 2 years), Colheita Ports remain in casks for many years, sometimes several decades, before being bottled (here in 1999). This long maturation in wood gives Colheitas a unique aromatic complexity, combining notes of dried fruits, spices, caramel and a beautiful noble oxidation. Each bottle is an open window on a historic vintage.

Tasting:
The 1951 vintage reveals a bright amber color with golden highlights. The nose is rich and intense, with aromas of dried fruits (walnuts, figs, dates), salted butter caramel, vanilla, precious wood and a slight hint of candied citrus fruits. On the palate, the attack is smooth and velvety. The flavors unfold with great length, offering a perfect harmony between sweetness, freshness and structure. The finish is endless, marked by notes of mocha, sweet spices and noble rancio.

Presented in an elegant wooden box, this 1951 Colheita Port is a perfect gift or centrepiece for any lover of great ports.

. Food and wine pairings:

  • A platter of mature cheeses (Stilton, Roquefort, old Comté),
  • Desserts made with dark chocolate or caramel (tarte tatin, chocolate fondant),
