Richebourg Grand Cru 1990 - Domaine Gros Brother and Sister
Presentation of the domain:
The Gros Frère et Soeur estate, located in Vosne-Romanée, is one of the most prestigious in the Côte de Nuits. Founded in 1960, it covers an area of 20 hectares spread over several appellations, including the famous Clos Vougeot, Richebourg, Echezeaux and Grands-Echezeaux. The estate's vines are cultivated using organic farming methods and the winemaking is traditional, respectful of the terroir and the grapes.
Presentation of the vintage:
The Richebourg cuvée is one of the jewels of the Gros Frère et Soeur estate from the famous Richebourg vineyard, located in Vosne-Romanée. This cuvée is renowned for its elegance, complexity and aging potential. It is considered one of the greatest expressions of Pinot Noir in Burgundy. The Richebourg cuvée is produced in limited quantities, making it a rare wine sought after by connoisseurs around the world.
Ah Richebourg, that's a name we don't often pronounce. And for good reason, the Richebourg grand cru appellation area, which overlooks the Romanée and the Romanée-Conti, represents only 8.03 hectares for an average annual production of less than 34,000 bottles.
Presentation of the 1990 vintage:
The 1990 vintage was almost perfect in red Burgundy. It is considered the vintage of the millennium by some tasters. Offering ideal climatic conditions for the ripening of the grapes. The 1990 Richebourg from Gros Frère et Soeur is a wine of great finesse, with complex aromas of red fruits, spices and undergrowth. On the palate, it is powerful and concentrated, with an elegant tannic structure and a long finish. This wine is at its peak, offering a perfect balance between freshness and maturity. It can be enjoyed now, but can also be cellared for many years to continue to develop and evolve.
Food and wine pairing:
The 1990 Richebourg from Gros Frère et Soeur pairs perfectly with refined meat dishes such as beef tenderloin, roast duck or game birds. It also pairs well with mature cheeses, such as Époisses or Cîteaux.
Service tips:
It is difficult to advise you on this magnificent bottle. If it were just us, we would taste it for itself, trying to make the pleasure last for several hours and appreciate its evolution. A two-hour opening prior to tasting in large glasses seems appropriate.
