Presentation of the Estate

Domaine Chèze is located in Limony, in the heart of the Saint-Joseph appellation, in the northern Rhône Valley. Created in 1978, it is now managed by Alexandre Chèze, who has managed to raise it to one of the region's leading estates. The vineyard covers 30 hectares, planted mainly with Syrah for the reds and Marsanne and Roussanne for the whites. The attention paid to the vineyard and the winery reflects a deep respect for the terroir and a constant quest for quality.

Presentation of the vintage and the appellation

Appellation: Saint-Joseph is located on the right bank of the Rhone and covers approximately 1,300 hectares. The vineyard lies on steep terraced granite soils, perfect for Syrah, which produces elegant and balanced wines.

Vinification: The "Cuvée des Anges" 2002 is produced in very low yield to guarantee an optimal aromatic concentration. It is made from 100% Syrah. After a long maceration, the aging is done in oak barrels, some of which are new, to bring complexity and roundness.

Tasting notes:

  • Color: Deep garnet red, with slightly tiled highlights.
  • Nose: Aromas of stewed red fruits, sweet spices, black pepper and a subtle note of undergrowth.
  • Palate: Fine and elegant, with silky tannins and a lovely freshness. The finish reveals touches of cocoa and liquorice.

Reviews: Although not widely publicized, this vintage is highly appreciated by enthusiasts for its balance and excellent value for money.

Presentation of the 2002 Vintage

The 2002 vintage was marked by capricious weather in the Rhone Valley. Heavy rains at the beginning of the season complicated the ripening of the grapes, but manual harvesting and rigorous sorting made it possible to produce quality wines from the best plots. This vintage is appreciated for its elegance and finesse, although it is less powerful than other years.
