Trevallon 2011 - IGP Alpilles
Eloi Dürrbach is what you might call an autodidact. While he was studying architecture, he discovered his passion and vocation for vines.
He abandoned his studies and cleared quarries in order to plant 17 hectares of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Some found this idea crazy at the time but it was already perfectly studied in the 19th century by Doctor Jule Guyot before the ravages of Phylloxera.
Eloi Dürrbach equipped himself with vats that he would only be able to pay for years later. Here was a brilliant winemaker who had started from nothing, so to speak. The first vinifications were even carried out outdoors.
The work paid off, since in 1978, Aubert de Vilaine of the famous Domaine de la Romanée Conti was won over by the tasting of his wines, he then spoke about them to an American importer who wanted to buy everything from him! Then it was Robert Parker's turn to discover the wines of Domaine de Trévallon, he then wrote a short article in the Wine Advocate in 1984 which confirmed the success of the Domaine. It was therefore less than 10 years after the first vintage released in 1976 that the Domaine was already making a strong impression on the international scene. If the estate is very well known to the Anglo-Saxons, its wines can be found on the great tables of starred restaurants.
Eloi Dürrbach was a man of character and integrity, he fell out somewhat with the American importer and RP, who therefore put him on the back burner for about fifteen years, which encouraged him to sell more in France, he could then count on celebrities such as Gérard Depardieu, Carole Bouquet and Jean Carmet who were great fans of Domaine de Trévallon wines.
Domaine de Trévallon is a family affair, since the beginning his wife has been at his side, then his children and the different graphics that you can find in each vintage, are none other than drawings by his father, an artist, to whom he brought colored pencils with which he drew 50 works.
The winemaking is reasoned, the wines produced using organic farming methods.
Unfortunately, Eloi Dürrbach died at the end of 2021, at the age of 71, and was succeeded by his children and his wife.
The 2011 vintage was harvested from September 12 to 23. It has an aging potential of around twenty years.
The vinification is without destemming, yeast or sulfur.
The aging is 24 months in tuns and barrels. Fining with fresh egg white, without filtration at bottling.
