Trotanoy 2001 - Pomerol
Did you know where the name Trotanoy comes from? In old French, "trop anoi" or "trop ennuie" means the weariness of working the land.
The estate, just over 7 hectares, is located on one of the best exposed parts of the famous Pomerol plateau.
The Jean-Pierre Moueix establishments (Latour, Lagrange, Belair-Monange, Dominus, etc.) acquired it in 1953.
The mix of soils gives the wine power and depth as well as great complexity.
Château Trotanoy is one of the most sought-after wines of Pomerol and produces wines suitable for decades of aging!
Tasting advice : It is not easy for the 2001 vintage to make a place for itself after the magnificent 2000. And yet it has a style all its own, a little more "rustic" with very firm tannins but fortunately softened by two decades of aging. A decanting will do it the world of good.
2001 Château Trotanoy, Pomerol: Law
Tasting notes by René Gabriel from January 2022: 2001 Château Trotanoy, Pomerol:
Color: Dark red wine with the first tones of maturity, which is normal after twenty years.
Nose: Sublime bouquet, lots of licorice, bakelite, carbolineum (tar), prunes, and a touch of currants are also included.
Palate: Succulent! Beautifully balanced palate, again a spicy and almost smoky Merlot. Has great aging potential and should be enjoyed after a long decanting or should age for a few more years in the cellar.
This 2001 is one of the great vintages produced by this wonderful estate. 19/20
